Psychologists have determined that colour is the first thing noticed about a person. Its impact is immediate and lasting.
What you wear has a direct effect on the way you think, feel and behave.
Social psychologist say our first impression is made up of
55% visual
38% tonality
7% the words we us.
Within 6 seconds a person has formed an opinion of us and we have made a irreversible impression. Everyone judges by the visual image presented to them.
You have all heard the phrase you have only one opportunity to make a first impression.
Rely on your dress, grooming and body language as a resource to design your image to sell yourself. After all they say, 'An ounce of image is worth a ton of performance.'
Improving your image is an investment in building your personal profile, reputation and the results you will achieve.
Statistics show that people who are bright, verbal and attractive make more money and are more successful than those who aren’t. A smile is 60 per cent of your image. It’s as much about image, colour and manner as it is about beauty.
Coco Chanel believed“ If a woman is poorly dressed you notice the clothes. If she is impeccably dressed you notice the women.”
The human eye responds positively to harmony and balance. It is pleasing when colours are related to each other in some orderly way.
In a sense we can say image is destiny, and by controlling your image you have taken a big step in controlling your destiny.
Colour can be used to create vertical design lines, which always make a figure appear taller and thus slimmer. The closer the vertical lines are the slimmer you look.
The most powerful vertical design line is the one that runs up the centre of the body as it virtually divides the body in two equal halves.
Eyes follow design lines in the direction of the accompanying feature. A v neck is more slimming than a round neck, as the eye travels upward and makes the wearer appear taller.
Colour can also play a roll in design bright or light colours move forward and dark colours move backward. Bright colour on a jumper on your waist jumps out while a darker colour is slimmer.
Focal points are anything on or added to your outfit that attracts attention. It is good to use a light colour under a jacket that attracts the attention towards the face, making them appear taller and slimmer.
Colour affects mood, apparent body shape, apparent age, your outlook to life and the overall impression you make on others. Wearing your best range of colours will make you look younger, healthier, vibrant and energetic. While wearing unflattering colours can make you look older, ill, exhausted or dull.
These facts make the discovery of the colours that work best for you an essential component in an image management program. Our Colour Consultants can help you discover the best colours that work for you.
