This year’s designers, Sportscraft, have thankfully steered us into a direction more pleasing on the eye. With an Olympic dress code theme of "Preppy", the green blazers and white shirts and slacks/skirts looked great, the only nod to the stereotype Australian dress were the white Dunlop volleys our athlete walk in.
Australia’s change of style at the Olympics demonstrates a change in how Australian’s want to be viewed by the rest of the world. Gone are the days of corked hats and knee length shorts. Enter the era of timeless classics.
One gets the feeling that this year Australians will be classy and professional. A uniform can say a lot about who the people are representing. With the majority of Australians now living in urban areas and wearing corporate clothes, it is about time the uniform reflected that. Needless to say we have come a long way from the first Olympics where no uniform or even clothing was required.
