What’s Your Personal Tagline?
When you think of Sarah Jessica Parker a number of things may come to mind. She is known as the ultimate fashion icon.
But, it was her star turn in the TV show Sex & the City as the ultimate New York City single girl, Carrie Bradshaw, that turned Parker into a pop culture icon. Fashion has been a regular character defining trait throughout the “Sex and the City” series, and in the film version, the fashion is jaw-droppingly fantastic. To the degree that when the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art introduced its first fashion audio tour of the museum, it was narrated by Sarah Jessica Parker. She has also designed a low cost fashion line, called Bitten. In 2007 SJP made $38mill from a GAP clothingcelebrity endorsement contract.
SJP helped Manolo Blahnik shoes regain ‘It’ status in fashion world. Manolo Blahnik reached the height of fame with “Sex and the City” when women around the world sudden developed a compulsion to buy new shoes and then shortly afterwards to go see the SATC movies.SJP revealed her star power post series also. Even film executives were a bit shocked by the rush of women toward the box office for “Sex and the City.” Forbes estimates that Parker raked in $30 million in 2010 alone.
As the ultimate New York City single girl, Carrie Bradshaw, Parker is now synonymous with NYC and as iconic as the Big Apple. Recently the New York Times was forced to report that rumours that the ultimate Manhattan girl, Sarah Jessica Parker, and her husband, Matthew Broderick, had decided to abandon Manhattan were not true. The City it seemed was relieved.
The SJP Empire includes a busy production company, the launch and management of nine perfumes, as well as her acting career and endorsement commitments. She has a busy schedule and a well known interest in the Arts. She has produced and hosted a reality TV show where the contestants were up and coming artists. Recently, Sarah Jessica Parker was among 25 people named by Pres Obama to join the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
You might well say...”I Don't Know How She Does It”
Sarah Jessica Parker offers the following hard-won career advice. ''Always make decisions in exactly the same way your instincts tell you. Follow your instincts and do not let other people's opinion of you become your opinion of yourself.''
Parker has become somewhat of a yardstick on the topic of work life balance since starring in I Don’t Know How She Does It, a movie about a finance executive trying to balance work and motherhood. The movie mirrors Parker’s own life in many ways. Parker has three children with actor Matthew Broderick, while presiding over a global personal brand empire.
The actress began her career starring in the Broadway musical version of Annie when she was in her teens. Then came the 1980s TV classic Square Pegs and movies like Footloose and Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Her most recent movies include Failure to Launch; Meet the Morgan’s and The Family Stone to name just a few...
With recent commentary around SJP’s Australian race day fashions, clearly the women of the world still declare her the ultimate fashion icon. And are disappointed if she doesn't live up to this iconic status. Fortunately she rarely disappoints, as she said in an interview for Allure magazine, in February 2008 “I've always been an actor. That's my job — I can be anything you want me to be. “
Personal Branding Lesson: What's Your Personal Tagline? When you think of how to describe your brand, look for something you can deliver consistently. If what you put out there is truly you, this won’t be a problem. Your tagline is the verbal equivalent of a logo that will come to people’s minds when they hear your name. It is a capsule description of who you are, what you do or your benefit to clients.
Maybe people have given you a tagline. Ensure it is a tagline that supports your brand or truly represents your brand and you are happy to maintain it. Alternatively, start moving to tag yourself and adjust the message. Is there a catchy phrase that you would like to be known by?
