What do Sonia Kruger, Dannii Minogue and Jennifer Hawkins have in common? Apart from being vivacious, talented and beautiful celebrities?
They have all experienced body image issues. Too slim, too short, too fat, too [fill-in-the-blank]. Their life is a true balancing act to always look camera perfect.
As a celebrity they’ve been placed under enormous scrutiny. And maybe we’ve even made a comment about their current weight or bought a magazine that plastered the cover with an unflattering taunt or photo! Just think about the recent media surrounding Jessica Simpson’s weight. Or Jennifer Love-Hewitt in the past. It become world-wide news. Talk about body image issues. It is no wonder eating disorders are so prolific against celebrities, models and up coming personalities.
Well, back to Sonia, Dannii and Jen. What else have they shared? - the cover of a recent Who magazine. The article includes various celebrities such as Jessica Rowe, Kate Ceberano, Kerri-Ann Kennerley commenting on their past body image issues and when they have felt the most body confident.
Their honesty is refreshing. Body image is a very important issue. It effects everyone! Though media commentary usually surrounds young girls and the impact of media, super thin models and undersized celebrities have on their diets and self esteem. It is a little known fact that our bodies change shape five to six times throughout our lives. We have all experienced that, ‘I used to wear this style and it looked great. Now it just does not look right!’. Followed by an expression of disappointment at themselves and blaming themselves for the wardrobe of pre-loved clothes that no longer fit.
Ladies, this should be a light bulb moment for you! It’s not your fault! Stop blaming yourself. Your body was going to change shape regardless. Yes you can add extra changes with weight loss or weight gain. But without the crash diets or consuming a few little calorie loaded indulgences to add a little extra cushioning, your body was going to change shape anyway. To think otherwise is bordering on insanity. So you can stop beating yourself up right now!
The insider secret to looking great is to recognize that your body has changed shape. And in a typical female response get on with in. Celebrities have the benefit of stylist on tap and are educated in the process of what suits their body shape. Think of Nicole Ritchie and Paris Hilton, they were regularly in the ‘What not to wear’ pages, post stylist Rachel Zoe they have developed a distinct style and celebrated darlings of the media almost to the point of saturation.
You too can understand your body shape and what suits will you and will flatter (yes flatter) your figure. You’ll develop a new signature style and a new confidence to go with this transformation.
